Join us for a community conversation on how the question of “What is public art” will be uniquely explored at Alcove over the next 3 months. This the kickoff event will be a panel discussion local street artists NASARIMBA, musician Jonathan Chavez, spoken word poet and community-led DJs.  This conversation will be moderated by Matias Martinez & the audience (aka YOU) through a Q&A! We are so excited to host a variety of programming over the Fall 2024 that includes window case activations and conversations exploring “What is Public Art?” in partnership with Calgary Arts Development. Light snacks & refreshments will be served! This will be an all-ages event. The event is pay what you can! Suggested $5 - $10 to support moderator fees and supplies. If you have any questions, please email us: info@alcoveartscentre.ca ABOUT THE MODERATOR: Indigenous Latin American artist Matias Martinez is of Mapuche/Maya descent based in Calgary, Alberta. Martinez’s work combines glass, paintings, and social practices, driven by my identity and curiosity, With themes of identity, love, memories, and commonality. His organic style is influenced by emotions, daily experiences, and music. Martinez’s use a rhizomatic approach, adapting tools and ideas based on momentary/built up inspiration. My recent work explores rediscovering my Indigenous identity, inspired by ancient stories, ways of life, and myths. Through contemporary art, I aim to highlight my Mapuche And Maya culture and storytelling. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Alcove Centre for the Arts (alcoveartscentre.ca) is a non-profit organization based in Calgary, AB which aims to make art more accessible and promote a vibrant local arts industry. We curate and cultivate community art spaces for Calgarians to engage in art and creativity while building a platform for emerging local artists. Alcove is a Recreational Art Space open to the public providing free art supplies and instruments to stimulate creativity. The space also acts as a gathering place for workshops, community events, and social meetups. Come visit and get creative!

The Park has an assortment ofactivities, rides, food, civic museums, and heritage architecture emphasizing the cultural significance of early Prairie settlement/life.It&#39;s like taking a step back in time, and it&#39;s worthevery dollar. 11/10 do recommend.

Calgary is a very beautiful city. This is a city park. Prince Island Park has rich natural scenery. The park is full of various green and delicious plants and flowers. It is quite comfortable in the evening. The whole area is also very good.

WinSport Day Lodge & Hill

This is the venue for some of the events of the 15th Winter Olympic Games in 1988, and it is still a good ice and snow sanctuary. It retained the national flag of the countries participating in the conference at that time, so the flag of the former Soviet Union can still be seen flying in the wind.

Peace Bridge

It looks like a tunnel bridge, and it is also a transportation hub for passing through the other side of the river. The color of this bridge is very eye-catching, with red intersecting structures. Vehicles cannot pass through, but people and bicycles can pass freely. There are lights at night, and Fengjia feels magnificent.
