Join us for an evening with bestselling historians and number one military podcast hosts James Holland and Al Murray as they talk about their new book Victory '45: The End of the War in Eight Surrenders From the Italian Alps to northern Germany, to London, New York, Washington and Tokyo, Victory ’45 tells the story of the extraordinary summer when the greatest conflagration the world had ever known finally came to an end after eight surrenders that heralded the Allied victory.
Comprised of eight chapters based around each of those surrenders and the victory celebrations which followed, it will be rich in character and human drama with revealing stories and perspectives behind the end of the war not yet told before. Each chapter will follow the viewpoints of a number of key characters as they traverse these world-changing events – from ordinary servicemen and women and civilians to generals and political leaders.
What took place during the negotiations of those surrenders and the terms that were agreed there would determine the directions the participating countries would take in the years that followed and ultimately the shape of our current world. We are delighted to be hosting this event with James and Al and look forward to welcoming them to Oswestry to celebrate the publication of Victory '45. For anyone with an interest in military history this is an evening not to be missed! Event Format: Authors talk 'in conversation' followed by audience Q&A and book signing Tickets: £12 without book (Admits One, ticket redeemable against a signed copy of Victory '45) or £25 with book (Admits One, includes a signed copy of Victory '45) Venue: The Holroyd Community Theatre is accessed off the Gledrid junction of the A5 north of Oswestry and is sign posted off Station Road (left turn before railway crossing). On-site parking is available. The Theatre foyer has a bar where pre-event refreshments can be purchased. Please let us know if you have an accessibility/mobility requirements. Refunds: It is our general policy not to refund event tickets unless an event has sold out. In the case of sold out events where we have a waiting list for tickets, we will attempt to sell on your tickets at face value, if notified 7 days prior to the event. If sold, you will receive a refund for the ticket value (excluding Eventbrite fees). Alternatively, you can request to transfer your tickets to another event, making up any difference in ticket price.
