She also received a 2023 artist grant from the WV Department of Arts, Culture and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Vicki's passion for storytelling led her to establish Cabin Reads in 2016, an author series that celebrates the power of literature. Additionally, she embarked on a year-long Instagram project, highlighting the work of diverse authors, illustrators, booksellers, and librarians who share their insights on the creative process and nature. Vicki Johnson's educational background includes being a first-generation graduate of Smith College and Emory University School of Law. Currently pursuing an MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts, Vicki has obtained her Picture Book Intensive certificate. Originally from rural Georgia, Vicki now resides in an enchanting historic log cabin in West Virginia, where she cares for five rescued animals. As a lesbian mom and single parent of a college student, Vicki has dedicated her life to crafting meaningful stories that resonate with young readers.
