Transparency Artist Talk – Original artists from 2020 rendition

Join the artists who participated in the 2020 Transparency project for an engaging artist talk. This event offers a unique opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from the artists themselves as they discuss their artwork. These works are from the initial iteration of the Transparency Project, which took place in 2020. This artist discussion is separate from the Center for Visual Arts and the Tea at the Atelier. 

The exhibition, presented by JTR Presents in collaboration with the Center for Visual Artists, focuses on advocating for the Transgender community. Through the use of art, the Transparency project aims to amplify the voices, stories, and works of Transgender and Gender-Expansive artists and individuals. It showcases artworks from both the local community and beyond, raising awareness about Trans issues and sparking important conversations about representation. By doing so, it seeks to bring about real change in people's lives.

The exhibition will run from September 1st to September 30th at the Center for Visual Artists, and from October 6th to October 28th at the African-American Atelier. The Transparency Project originated in 2017 following JTR Presents' completion of the _______hood project, which explored identity on various scales. The need for the Transparency Project became apparent amidst concerning developments such as the executive order by the 45th president to dismiss Trans soldiers from duty and ban Trans civilians from enrollment. Recognizing the profound impact representation has on a community, the project's curator, along with Lara Americo, sought to empower the Transgender community through the Arts, allowing them to share their stories and assert their identities in their own words. The project also welcomes involvement from cisgender individuals, but gives priority to Gender-Expansive artists and community members. Additionally, donations are appreciated to support the various programming associated with this exhibition.
