Join the Tom Lea Fellow recipients for an engaging discussion and reception at the upcoming TOM LEA FELLOW PRESENTATIONS event in El Paso. This event, established in 2013 by Dee and Adair Margo, aims to further the appreciation of Tom Lea’s art and writing. Annually, UTEP students and faculty are granted the prestigious Tom Lea Fellowship. During this gathering, MFA candidate Zazil Collins will enchant the audience with her captivating presentation, titled "Tom Lea, an Ecopoetic Vision," where she will intertwine prose and poetry to explore the profound themes within Lea's paintings and murals depicting the authentic characters and landscapes of the American Southwest. Following Collins, Ph.D. candidate Eric Chavez, currently conducting research in the National Archives, will share his observations on how Tom Lea's murals reflect cultural and political changes throughout different periods of muralism. This event will take place on December 7, 2023, at the Blumberg Auditorium, UTEP Library Room 111, located at 1900 Wiggins Rd, El Paso, TX 79968. Admission is free, offering a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the depth and significance of Tom Lea's artistic legacy.
