Britain’s top-selling true crime writer Kate Summerscale, the award-winning author of The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, will discuss her latest book,The Peepshow, which deals with the murders at 10 Rillington Place. She will join true crime podcaster Shaun Attwood, who shares crime and punishment stories ‘that will make your butt clench’. The conversation will be chaired by Ava Glass. Kate Summerscale’s The Suspicions of Mr Whicher (2008) won the Samuel Johnson prize and the British Book Awards for both Popular Non-Fiction and Book of the Year. It was a Richard & Judy Bookclub pick and was shortlisted for the Crime Writers Association Non-Fiction Gold Dagger in the UK and the Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime in the US. Hat Trick productions adapted the story for ITV, and went on to make three fictional dramas about Jack Whicher’s investigations. Kate’s third book, Mrs Robinson’s Disgrace (2012), was a Sunday Times bestseller, and The Wicked Boy (2016), won the 2017 Mystery Writers of America Edgar award for Best Fact Crime. The Peepshow will appear on 3 October 2024. Shaun Attwood is a former stock-market millionaire and Ecstasy trafficker turned True Crime YouTuber, public speaker, author and activist, who is banned from America for life. His story was featured worldwide on National Geographic Channel as an episode of Locked Up/Banged Up Abroad called Raving Arizona. Dubbed ‘The new queen of spy fiction’ by The Guardian, and ‘the real thing’ by the Washington Post, former journalist Ava Glass is the CWA Dagger-shortlisted author of three espionage novels: The Chase, The Traitor and The Trap. The Traitor was a 2023 Richard and Judy Bookclub pick and The Chase was a Barnes and Noble book of the month.
