Renowned author Adam Bobbette will be presenting his latest work, "The Pulse of the Earth," which explores the emergence of modern theories of the earth from the slopes of Indonesia's volcanoes.

Bobbette takes us on a fascinating journey, beginning in the late nineteenth century, where scientists were faced with the challenge of protecting the colonial plantation economy from the unpredictable forces of volcanoes. Drawing on Javanese knowledge traditions, colonial geologists, volcanologists, mystics, Theosophists, orientalists, and revolutionaries, the book reveals how the earth sciences are the result of a fusion between Western and non-Western cosmology, theology, anthropology, and geology.

In an engaging conversation, Bobbette will be joined by Zeynep Oguz, a Lecturer in Anthropology of Development at the University of Edinburgh, and Glasgow-based artist Ilana Halperin. This is a unique opportunity to delve into the evolution of planetary thought and reevaluate the politics of geological knowledge.

Adam Bobbette, Lecturer in Political Geology at the University of Glasgow, School of Geographical and Earth Sciences, is the author of several acclaimed books, including "Political Geology: Active Stratigraphies and the Making of Life" and "New Earth Histories." We came here on a spontaneous visit one Sunday afternoon in January and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our wee boy loved seeing the &ldquo;old fashioned house&rdquo; and was so well looked after by all the staff, from the cash register to the flat and back out again.We went round twice (with a shift change between visits!) and the insight into one story of no doubt thousands like it in Glasgow was fantastic. Plus our boy thoroughly enjoyed colouring in his wallie dug. A hidden gem that is well worth the wander through Garnethill.

This is simply a dream castle. When I arrived, it was the April holiday, and there were almost no people on the road. Only the ancient buildings stood in the cold air, solemn and heavy, which made people feel awe.
