We are so excited to welcome Angelo Tijssens and Michele Hutchinson to the shop to discuss Angelo's novel THE EDGES, a moving debut about masculinity, connection and the idea of home. Michele Hutchison translated The Edges from Dutch to English and they will be in conversation about the book's themes and its translation process. This UK event has been supported by Flip Through Flanders. Doors: 6.30pm, starts: 6.45pm Tickets are £4. Admission is free when purchasing a copy the book. About the book: A man returns to his hometown to clear out the flat of his recently deceased mother. While there, he cannot resist visiting his former lover. As a storm rages in the night outside, he finds in the man’s embrace some kind of quiet; some kind of home.
As we are drawn into the narrator’s past, we see how a childhood marked by abuse and a life lived on the edges can shape someone – and what respite and beauty can be found in love and trust. Unsentimental yet aching with longing and vulnerability, Angelo Tijssens’ The Edges is a deeply humane, moving and beautiful debut. About the authors: Angelo Tijssens studied theatre at the Antwerp Conservatorium. He was director Lukas Dhont’s co-writer on award-winning feature films Girl and Close. De randen (The Edges) is his debut novel. It has been translated into Spanish, French and German, won the jury prize at the Prix Roman Gay in France and was shortlisted for the Bronzen Uil in the Netherlands. He lives in Antwerp. Michele Hutchison is a British writer and translator, mainly of Dutch-language literature. She won the 2020 International Booker Prize for her translation of The Discomfort of Evening by Lucas Rijneveld. The Bridge of Sighs (Oxford University, UK) is officially called Hertford Bridge, a famous attraction of Oxford University, the Bridge of Sighs was built in 1913 (completed in 1914), it crosses the New College Road to connect the old and new parts of Hertford College, is a famous attraction of Oxford University, Designed by Sir Thomas Jackson (Sir TomasJackson), this bridge is called the sigh bridge in Venice, Italy. After the tour group came to Oxford, I was only able to take a look.

The Bodleian Library - University of Oxford is the main library of the University of Oxford. It is one of the oldest libraries in Europe (opened in 1602) and the second largest in the UK after the British Library. library. This is one of the 6 statutory libraries in the UK. All Oxford publications will be automatically sent to this collection upon publication. There are many branches under the library, among which the Radcliffe Camera branch has become an important landmark of Oxford University. Many books are stored here, and non-Oxford University students can also visit it. Bodori Library is composed of a group of buildings of different historical periods and styles. It is said that there are underground passages connecting each building.
