Two artist brothers from Bologna in northern Italy, Annibale and Agostino Carracci, visit Rome in 1594. They are about to take on a huge commission – to decorate rooms in the great Farnese Palace. A private family residence, its owner, Odoardo Farnese newly elected cardinal aged just 20, had inherited great wealth. Having finished the cardinal’s study, in 1597 they start work on the palace’s vast gallery. How to prepare? Two huge charcoal drawings on paper tell us this story. They are preparatory drawings for the hall’s monumental fresco. The word cartoon comes from the Italian ‘cartone’ meaning a large sheet of paper. As well as being a vital part of the creative process, they are works of art in their own right. Alive with mythical sea creatures, gods and goddesses, putti and crashing waves, the drawings reflect the inspiration the Carracci brothers found in Rome’s antique sculptures and recent works by their predecessors, Michelangelo and Raphael. Remarkable survivors of art in the making, the cartoons offer a window into the brothers’ ideas, creative process and technique.

a great art gallery right by Trafalgar Square. gorgeous building with a variety of art works to enjoy including 3 Van Gogh paintings. not huge if you aren&rsquo;t doing the paid exhibits also but a nice way to spend an hour or so. cloak room available for &pound;2 per item but you can leave your bag there for as many hours as needed, as long as you collect by closing time. cafe and toilets available (although we didn&rsquo;t use as the queues were huge!). staff were very friendly and nice.

Highly recommend the British Museum for at least one day tour. We arranged a tour of the British Museum on the last day of the 10-day UK tour. Found that we arranged three hours too little. Fortunately, we have participated in the teacher&#39;s explanation group, through the teacher&#39;s wonderful explanation, we know a lot of the history and origin of the previously blurred cultural relics. Let us have a vivid human history lesson at the British Museum. Seeing the long-awaited kiln, Tang Sancai, saw the exquisite memory of Chinese historical relics. Teacher Bilan also uploaded a few photos of the kiln after the team ended, so I kept a precious memory and beautiful photo in regret.

Westminster Abbey is actually a collection of churches and cemeteries (royal and some celebrities). The building is magnificent and the interior is well maintained. It is worth seeing. The ticket purchased on Trip.com is convenient to use. Just scan the QR code at the entrance of the church to enter. There are too many people. Queues for an hour to enter. The church provides free Chinese voice interpreters.

This time I brushed it twice. This time I took my family to sit together. It felt really good overlooking half of London and the Thames. The only fly in the ointment was that the weather was not good enough, and the scenery was too far from sunny and cloudy.

The Queen&#39;s favorite palace is very luxurious, but it is not allowed to take pictures. It can only be taken outside. When entering, a photo was taken and was stopped by the staff. Knowing the life of the royal family, Windsor Castle is generally very quiet.
