Contemporary art, entertainment, and architecture cultures offer a growing amount of digitally mediated spatial experiences. These experiences are situated either in the metaverse - like virtual reality, or location-based in physical realms - like augmented reality, and increasingly powered by generative systems such as AI.But are such spatially 'immersive experiences' a new phenomenon, and are they dependent on digital innovation? This event brings together a panel of leading experts from different sectors including film, music, art, and cultural heritage to discuss the history and current developments of spatial illusion technologies in the digital age. The panel discussion will be preceded by an introductory talk by Professor Richard Koeck (University of Liverpool), author of The Art of Spatial Illusion (Routledge, 2024), and followed by a drinks reception. PROGRAMME 5PM - Welcome and introductory talk by Professor Richard Koeck Richard will take the audience on an insightful journey and exploration of the evolving relationship between humans, media, and spatial environments, tracing their progression from the Renaissance, via Modernity and Postmodernity, to today’s digital age. Speaking on his new book, he will offer a compelling reading and re-evaluation of architectural history and media theory, drawing connections between historical practices, technological innovations, and contemporary immersive experiences. 5.20PM - Panel discussion followed by Q&A Panellists include: Professor François Penz - Emeritus Professor at the Architecture Department of the University of Cambridge specialised in film and architecture Hilary Knight – Independent Cultural Consultant and former Director of Digital at Tate who helps creative and cultural organisations worldwide with digital and content strategies that will make them more responsive and resilient in a fast-changing world Dave Kay - Director of Adlib, a major event technology company with expertise in big live music venues and spatial audio production 6.20PM - Networking reception 7.00PM - Event closes FIND US This event will take place in the Cheng Kar Shun Digital Hub at Jesus College, Oxford. The Hub entrance is on Market Street (opposite Wagamama). The Hub is accessible, with automatic double doors at the entrance and lifts to and from the main lower ground floor event space. The Bridge of Sighs (Oxford University, UK) is officially called Hertford Bridge. It is a famous attraction at Oxford University. The construction of the Bridge of Sighs began in 1913 (completed in 1914). It crosses New College Road and connects the old and new parts of Hertford College. It is a famous attraction at Oxford University. It was designed by Sir Thomas Jackson. Because the bridge is similar to the Bridge of Sighs in Venice, Italy, it is called the Bridge of Sighs. I came to Oxford University with a tour group and could only take a quick look.

The Bodleian Library - University of Oxford is the main library of the University of Oxford. It is one of the oldest libraries in Europe (opened in 1602) and the second largest in the UK after the British Library. library. This is one of the 6 statutory libraries in the UK.
