Discover the fascinating world of zines and unlock your creativity at the Teen Studio: Zines for Teens Workshop. This workshop is designed for teens aged 11-17 who are eager to bring their publication ideas and stories to life. Dive into the rich history and artistry of zines as we explore their potential for storytelling, comics, art, information, and social justice. At the Kala Art Gallery & Community Classroom in Berkeley, participants will be immersed in the captivating exhibition, "The Embodied Press: queer abstraction and the artists' book," celebrating the power of queer expression.

During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to challenge traditional notions of a book and push the boundaries of creativity through zine-making. Guided by the experienced Teaching Artist, Elaine Ponce, you will work with a variety of materials and learn about different formats, layouts, and subject matter. Discover how zines can become a powerful vehicle for independent publishing.

In this serene and welcoming environment, participants are encouraged to revel in visual abstraction as a means to navigate their identities. The workshop will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 1-3 pm at the Kala Art Gallery & Community Classroom located at 2990 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94702.

Admission to this inspiring workshop is $10, and all materials will be provided by Kala Art Institute. To secure your spot, please RSVP in advance as availability is limited. Prior to the workshop, participants will receive an email containing links to waivers that must be read and signed.
