Join us for a walk of Liverpool’s famous waterfront with Peter de Figueiredo, who will tell the story of how the George's Dock, built in 1771, became the site of the three monumental Edwardian buildings that dominate Liverpool's waterfront and testify to the city's pre-eminence in global trade during the early years of the 20th century. The walk will include the Three Graces, the monuments that stand in their shadow and other surrounding buildings that are part of the story. Peter de Figueiredo is an architect, architectural historian, author and long-term Victorian Society member. He is author/joint author of Liverpool's historic places of worship; Mersey: the river that changed the world; Cheshire Country Houses; Religion and Place: Victorian Manchester and Salford and The Rows of Chester. The Liverpool Regional group of the Victorian Society raises awareness of the Victorian architectural heritage of all of Merseyside and further into Cheshire and South-West Lancashire through events including visits and talks. This is a pilgrimage, as a Liverpool fan. No matter how this journey is perceived by others, it is a perfect one in my heart. Especially when I passed through the player tunnel and saw the sign of Anfield, my heart was filled with emotion. When I stood on the stadium and closed my eyes, I could imagine the bustling crowds here on match days.
