Welcome to the Spring Concert! Come and join us for an evening of music at the Church of St John the Evangelist. Tonight's concert takes its inspiration from various aspects of the sea. We start with the prelude to Act 2 of Ethel Smyth's opera, The Wreckers. The prelude is subtitled On the Cliffs of Cornwall. In Elgar's song cycle, Sea Pictures, we will be joined by mezzo soprano Olivia Hamblyn. The last work we will play is Rimsky-Korsakov's symphonic suite, Scherherazade. This is a four movement suite basec on episodes from the 1001 Nights. The first movement is entitled The Sea and Sinbad's Ship.
