Join us for a talk by James Stourton, discussing his latest book Rogues and Scholars: Boom and Bust in the London Art Market 1945-2000. Stourton – historian, author and former Chairman of Sotheby's UK – tells the story of the London art market from the post-war period to the turn of the millennium, introducing us to “a glorious rogues' gallery of clever amateurs, eccentric scholars, brilliant emigrés, cockney traders and grandees with a flair for the deal”. Some of his other books include: The British as Art Collectors, A History of British Art Collecting from the Tudors to the Present, with Charles Sebag-Montefiore (2012), Great Houses of London (2012), and a biography of Kenneth Clark (2016), which was named The Sunday Times Art Book of the Year in 2016. Places are limited and booking for this event is required. The event will take place in the Research Centre (“The Barn”) in Christ Church Meadow.
