The Festa delle Rificolone is a traditional festival in Florence, Italy, usually held on the evening of September 7th each year. The festival dates back to the Renaissance and is a celebration of the birth of the Virgin Mary and a tribute to the farmers who come to the city on September 8th to sell their agricultural products and handicrafts. The main feature of the Lantern Festival is the lantern parade. Children will take to the streets holding paper lanterns of various shapes and bright colors, which are usually lit by candles or modern LED lights. Traditionally, these lanterns are made into various patterns, and sometimes children's own lanterns are also involved in the parade. This festival also has an interesting custom: children will try to "attack" other people's lanterns with blowpipes or other means to extinguish them, which is a way of celebration and game.
