Renowned National Geographic photographer Ami Vitale will be presenting at the Mary Jane Price/Annie Cone Liptzin Visual Communication Alumni-in-Residence series, hosted by UNC Hussman. As a Nikon Ambassador and National Geographic photographer, filmmaker, and writer, Ami Vitale has traveled to over 100 countries, capturing powerful stories that drive change and inspire us to push boundaries in our daily lives. From witnessing violence and conflict to experiencing surreal beauty and the resilience of the human spirit, Ami's work showcases the inspiring power of individuals making a difference. Through a series of captivating images and stories, she highlights people living on the front lines of war, climate change, and extinction, refusing to let catastrophe define their future. These cautionary tales serve as an invitation for all of us to take action. By showcasing the hope, resilience, and imagination demonstrated by the individuals in her stories, Ami challenges us to consider what we can accomplish together. Ami Vitale's work has earned her recognition as one of the most influential conservation photographers of her generation, and she is Conservation International's Lui-Walton Innovators Fellow. She has received numerous awards, including the Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service and the Lucie Humanitarian Award. Ami's dedication to raising awareness about the biodiversity crisis and supporting environmental stewardship led her to establish Vital Impacts, an organization using art and storytelling to protect our planet. Through grants and mentoring, Vital Impacts supports environmental storytellers and brings together environmental artists to inspire the next generation of advocates. The Mary Jane Price/Annie Cone Liptzin Alumni-in-Residence series was established in honor of two alumnae who contributed greatly to the UNC Hussman visual journalism program.
