Renowned award-winning author Julia Alvarez will be presenting a reading from her latest work, The Cemetery of Untold Stories, at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin on May 21, 2024. Having gained international acclaim for her compelling novels and poetry, Alvarez's literary journey began in New York City in 1950 before her family's return to their native Dominican Republic. Forced to flee to the United States due to her father's political involvement, Alvarez has since crafted a diverse body of work spanning novels, poetry collections, non-fiction, and books for young readers. Among her accolades are the prestigious Pura Belpré and Américas Awards, the Hispanic Heritage Award, and the F. Scott Fitzgerald Award. In 2013, she was honored with the National Medal of Arts by President Obama. Following the reading, a reception will be held, giving attendees the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Alvarez's works. As a regular tourist thought the process of entering the Parliament House was very cumbersome, but I didn&#39;t expect to check the bag I took with me to visit. Built in 1885, the building covers 51 acres and was designed by architects modeled on the Capitol in Washington, DC, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and was named a National Historic Landmark in 1986. Amazing the passing of the world does not affect its appearance and internal structure, as always brand new, visitors can visit the government office, have time to visit around the building outside, from all angles to enjoy the century-old building.
