DescriptionJoin science-fiction authors Ryka Aoki, Micaiah Johnson, and Brent Lambertfor readings and a conversation that delve into the fascinating world of science fiction and its intersection with queer narratives. The authors will share their journeys of how they became interested in sci-fi and why this genre became a channel for their creative process, and explore how it sparks imagination, defies conventions, and inspires visions of tomorrow. The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Phoenix Alexander, a sci-fi writer and Jay Kay and Doris Klein Librarian for Science Fiction and Fantasy at the University of California, Riverside.
Following the conversation, attendees are invited to enjoy book signings and the galleries of the USC Fisher Museum of Art. This event is presented in conjunction with the PST ART exhibition Sci-Fi, Magick, Queer L.A.: Sexual Science and the Imagi-Nation (August 22–November 23, 2024). Click here to learn more. We went to see &quot;Facing Survival&quot; by artist David Kassan. It honors Holocaust survivors with realistic portraits of them. It honors their survival with realistic portrayals of them. In addition to the individual portraits, there is a life-sized mural of them. The life-sized holograms are also fascinating and you can ask them questions. The exhibition is interactive, heartfelt, and details the 5+ year journey that the artist has taken with his subjects, not just the subject. It is a beautiful and important exhibition, especially in today&#39;s times. It is rare to see an artist step back and let his subject take center stage.
