We are thrilled to welcome Gabriel Flynn to the shop to discuss his debut novel, POOR GHOST!, a razor-sharp story of literature, class and family. Doors: 6.30pm, starts: 6.45pm Tickets are £4. About the book: When Luca drops out of his prestigious PhD programme and moves back home to Manchester, he thinks he'll take some time to consider his life choices: the failed love affair that ended in a disastrous holiday and embarrassing exit, the pursuit of an academic life that gave him nothing but a strong sense of failure.
In need of money, and still convinced the literary life might be for him, Luca takes on a job as a ghost writer: Andy, who has progressive MS, wants Luca to write his life story. Luca's own father had MS and eventually took his own life - making the assignment a full immersion in the dark parts of his childhood Luca has never really dealt with. Luca has his own ideas about what Andy's book should be like - but he'll have to learn how to curb his dreaming, if he ever wants to get paid.
While his love of literature and intellectual ambition might have got him so far away from his childhood in Manchester, Luca is grappling with what it means to try to go home again - how far where you're from shapes you, and how difficult your parent's past is to shake off. About the author: Gabriel Flynn was born in 1991 and grew up in Manchester. His writing has appeared in Five Dials, Best British Stories, and the White Review, whose short story prize he was shortlisted for in 2020. He lives in Berlin. The Bridge of Sighs (Oxford University, UK) is officially called Hertford Bridge. It is a famous attraction at Oxford University. The construction of the Bridge of Sighs began in 1913 (completed in 1914). It crosses New College Road and connects the old and new parts of Hertford College. It is a famous attraction at Oxford University. It was designed by Sir Thomas Jackson. Because the bridge is similar to the Bridge of Sighs in Venice, Italy, it is called the Bridge of Sighs. I came to Oxford University with a tour group and could only take a quick look.

The Bodleian Library - University of Oxford is the main library of the University of Oxford. For a few pounds you can climb to the top of the tower and enjoy a 360-degree view of Oxford, with the most stunning long strip of landscape and the city to the south. The church porch was built four or five hundred years ago, and its spiral columns are a major innovative feature in British architectural history.
