Celebrate National Poetry Month and LGBTQ+ writers by participating in the Poetry Slam Sign-Up event in Greensboro. Local poets are invited to showcase their talent for a chance to win $100 at Tate Street Coffee House on April 6, 2024. From June Jordan to Ocean Vuong, queer poets have always played a significant role in shaping the literary community. The W.i.i.S.E. program, organized by Guilford Green Foundation & LGBTQ Center, will feature a poetry slam where poets can perform up to 3 original pieces.

To compete for the cash prize, poets must be at least 18 years old, identify as LGBTQ+ or an ally, and have three poems prepared for the event. Judges will evaluate each performance based on creativity, clarity, emotion, and delivery. Poems should not contain any offensive language or remarks.

Audience members are welcome to attend the event without prior registration. The top poets will face off in a final round in case of a tie. Join us for an evening of powerful poetry and support the vibrant LGBTQ+ literary community in Greensboro.
