Join award-winning poets Professor Jackie Kay Hon FBA, Jason Allen-Paisant, and Monika Radojevic at the Poetry in Protest event, where they will explore the political aspects of poetry. These renowned poets will share their own works and words that have inspired them, discussing poetry's role in challenging norms, promoting resilience, and driving change. Professor Jackie Kay, a celebrated poet and novelist, has received high praise for her literary contributions, including winning the Guardian Fiction Prize for her novel "Trumpet." She is currently a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Salford and an Honorary Fellow of the Academy. Professor Jason Allen-Paisant, an accomplished poet and scholar, focuses on Afro-diasporic communities and their influence on the future through living philosophies. His poetry collection "Self-Portrait as Othello" has garnered significant recognition, winning prestigious awards like the Forward Prize and T. S. Eliot Prize. Chairing the event is Monika Radojevic, an award-winning poet and founder of Feminist Invoicing, who is working on a short story collection and debut novel under Penguin Random House. The event will feature live subtitles provided by StageTEXT. The Poetry in Protest event will be held on October 30, 2024, at The British Academy in London. Admission is free, but booking is required. The evening will kick off at 6:00 pm with registration, followed by the event at 6:30 pm. An audience Q&A session will take place at 7:30 pm, with the event concluding at 7:45 pm. Attendees can also join via live-stream on Vimeo.
