Come enjoy an afternoon with Palabras Literary Salon, a BIPOC-centered literary community event co-hosted with Latinx with Plants, in the open air greenhouse in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. We are honored to feature the inspiring Brent Ameneyro (A Face Out of Clay). Invited readers include a curated diverse roster of poets and writers. Invited guest readers list include: Lylliam Posadas, Alexa Vasquez, Pallavi Dhawan, William Ramirez, Ingrid M. Calderon, James Evert Jones, Jose Rios, Frankie Tan, Henry Medina, and host Jen Cheng (list subject to change). This salon encourages new work by poets and writers. This salon's theme is  cultivating home,  sharing stories of finding that safe place. From Brent: Maya Angelou once wrote, “The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” The  safe place  Angelou references can be physical, but it can also be a state of being, a person, or a community. We  cultivate home  on the page with our words, in bookstores and libraries, in gardens, and with people who make us feel safe and loved. This event is volunteer-run and grassroots-driven.Please kindly help us with your early RSVP here to attend and join in the facilitated discussion. Previous events have sold out so please join the waitlist if the RSVPs are full - people do cancel! We are asking for RSVPs for priority entry due to limited capacity in the back greenhouse patio.Everyone is welcome. Drop-ins are welcome.Your donations help us get a headcount and pay for chair rentals and reception for this outdoor event. More about Palabras Literary Salon With a mission to create intercultural community building, Palabras is a salon inspired by our elders of civil rights consciousness raising and Maya Angelou's salons in the Harlem Renaissance. Our facilitator, Jen Cheng, brings home-cooking and light snacks to the event as we build bridges by breaking bread together. We sit in a non-heirarchical circle, without a stage. This is not an open-mic. Talk-story and witnessing are ways we can build better understanding of our humanity. He was the 2022-2023 Letras Latinas Poetry Coalition Fellow at the University of Notre Dame. He currently serves as an associate at Letras Latinas and as the poetry editor for The Los Angeles Review. Community and Healing Through Plants Latinx with Plants is a woman of color owned business in Boyle Heights whose focus is to celebrate and uplift people of color in the plant world. While the shop began with an Instagram account that was at first dedicated to sharing fun memes, plant inspo, and plant parent goals, our community grew into something we never could have imagined. Our physical shop has been bouncing around Cesar Chavez Avenue for a couple of years, and in June of 2022, we relocated to our largest location yet. My mom, youngest brother Luke &amp; I went here for the first time Summer of 2012 to celebrate my 8th grade graduation. I discovered this park because I grew up going to Six Flags St. Louis with my parents, friends, &amp; Luke as my home park frequently since I was about 8 years old &amp; became more of a thrill seeker first with SFSTL, then Six Flags Great America, and I  used to go on the Six Flags website because I was curious about seeing parks in other states &amp; seeing what kind of rides the other parks had to offer &amp; discovered Six Flags Magic Moutain as I was browsing &amp; thought this park looked like so much fun, which it really was! My mom took my youngest brother Luke to meet the Looney Tunes characters &amp; Hurricane Harbor waterpark since he wasn&#39;t tall enough yet to go on the major thrill rides while I went on lots of amazing rollerocasters with Val, someone who used to babysit for us whenever she was able to. We stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn right across the street from the park, took a picture of X2 which could be seen from our hotel, palm trees in the parking lot, &amp; our elevator had Looney Tunes characters on it which made the Hilton Garden Inn Unique! My dad was also excited for us because Six Flags Magic Mountain is the park featured in his favorite movie, National Lampoon&#39;s Vacation &amp; is only about an hour and 40 minutes from Santa Monica beach! Six Flags Magic Mountain is located in Valencia, California.

Santa Monica Beach, a gem embedded in the California sunshine, caresses the heartstrings of every traveler with its endless charm. Here, every grain of sand seems to carry a story, and every wave is a whisper of nature. Walking along this romantic coastline, you can feel that time seems to slow down, making people forget the hustle and bustle and indulge in this tranquility and beauty.
Santa Monica Beach is not only a breathtaking landscape painting, but also a paradise full of vitality and fun. From the first ray of sunshine in the morning to the stars in the night, whether it is the passionate challenge of surfers or the dream castles built by children on the beach, they all constitute the unique scenery here.
And the historic Santa Monica Pier, like a kind old man, quietly guards this sea area.
