Helen Glazer, a grantee of the National Science Foundation's Antarctic Artists and Writers Program, traveled to Antarctica in 2015 to capture ice and geological formations through photography and sculpture. Working in remote Antarctic scientific field camps, Glazer had the privilege of accessing protected areas that are only available with government permits or in the company of a skilled mountaineer. Inspired by her unique experiences, Walking in Antarctica is an immersive and interdisciplinary exhibition that showcases photography, sculpture, and audio narrative, allowing visitors to embark on a journey through captivating Antarctic landscapes rarely seen by tourists. The exhibition features remarkable "walks" through frozen lakes, towering glaciers, baroque sea ice formations, a magnificent frozen ice cave, surreal-looking boulder fields, and a lively colony of nesting Adélie penguins. Visitors with smartphones can enjoy an audio tour narrated by Glazer, which draws from her blog documenting her experiences. Through her artwork, Glazer aims to convey the awe-inspiring complexity of the natural world, inspiring others to protect and preserve these wild places. The exhibition is an adaptation of Glazer's solo exhibition at the Rosenberg Gallery at Goucher College and has been made possible by grants from the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance and the Puffin Foundation.
