The NRA Instructor Pistol Shooting Course (Van Nuys) is a comprehensive training program designed to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to effectively teach the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting. This course is a prerequisite for aspiring NRA Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun instructors.

Participants must complete the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course via Distance Learning on Tuesday or Wednesday from 6pm to 10pm in the same week as this course. Additionally, attendance and completion of the NRA Basic Instructor Trainer Course and NRA Instructor Pistol Shooting Course on Saturday and the Instructor Range Qualification on Sunday are mandatory.

The course is divided into three parts: the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course via Distance Learning, the NRA Basic Instructor Training, and discipline-specific instructor training and Range Qualification. Practical exercises and an instructor certification examination will assess students' organizational and teaching skills.

Students will receive the NRA Trainer's Guide and the NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Candidate materials. It is important to note that additional range fees apply. The course fee includes the Basic Instructor Trainer and the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting via Distance Learning, both of which are prerequisites for attending this course.

For the class portion, participants are required to bring a notepad, pen, pencil, and highlighter. It is also necessary to have a mobile laptop, smartphone, or tablet to download digital materials. However, live ammunition is strictly prohibited in the classroom.

During the range portion of the class, participants must bring their own handgun with two magazines, as well as eye and ear protection. A minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition is required for qualification.

To become a certified NRA Instructor, candidates must fulfill certain qualifications. These include completing the Basic Instructor Trainer Course, the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting via Distance Learning, and passing a written exam with a score of 90% or higher. The NRA Instructor Training Courses provide the additional knowledge and skills needed to organize and teach courses in the NRA Basic Firearm Training Program.

Registration for the NRA Instructor Pistol Shooting Course (Van Nuys) typically closes three days before the course date. A minimum of four registered students is required to hold the course. Please note that a $50 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your seat in the class. Failure to complete the prerequisites or canceling attendance may result in additional charges.
