The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is open to all individuals, regardless of their previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation. Please note that seats in this class are reserved for instructor candidates who are enrolled in our NRA Pistol Instructor course on June 1, 2024. Once you register for the NRA Pistol Instructor Course, we will provide you with a code that will grant you access to tickets for this class. This traditional, instructor-led course offers direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor, guiding students through various topics such as gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, selecting and storing a pistol, the fundamentals of shooting, and pistol inspection and maintenance. With small class sizes, students benefit from low student-to-instructor ratios, ensuring personalized attention throughout the course. The final components of the course include a written test and a shooting qualification drill.

Our patient instructors create a comfortable and non-intimidating environment, assisting students every step of the way. As a prerequisite for the NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Course, successful completion of this course is necessary.

To participate in the course, please bring the following items: a reliable handgun (preferably semi-auto or revolver, 9mm or larger), approximately 100 rounds of ammunition, eye and ear protection, proper attire, applicable medications, bug spray, snacks/water, note-taking materials for the classroom, your NRA number (if applicable, although membership is not required), an open mind, and a positive attitude. Within a week of the class, all students will receive an email with further details on what to bring and what to expect.
