Funded by the National Arts Fund for 2024 and a Guizhou Province Fine Arts Support Project, this production, directed by young dancer Wang Yabin and performed by the Guizhou Song and Dance Theater, follows the three-act structure of "Seeking the Way, Enlightenment, and Verification" as it unfolds. The epic story of Wang Yangming's exile to Longchang, Guizhou, and his realization of the principles of "mind is principle" and "the unity of knowledge and action" on the brink of life and death, unfolds on stage. The rustic charm of Miao group dance interweaves with the sharpness of modern dance. LED ink scrolls, multi-layered gauze curtains, and movable mountain-shaped props instantly transform into images of cliffs, academies, and rock flowers. The 90-minute, non-intermission performance presents a breathtaking display of Eastern aesthetics of utmost authenticity and nature.
