New Charing Cross Gallery (1963-68) and contemporary artist-run models in Glasgow Principal Seminar Room 1, Reid Building, The Glasgow School of Art, 164 Renfrew Street, Glasgow G3 6RQ In 1963, in the promotion material for New Charing Cross Gallery, Glasgow, Bet Low (1924-2007), one of the gallery co-founders wrote: The idea is to make it smart, efficient and suitable for showing modern painting to advantage as distinct from the present mausoleum-like institutions we have here. The gallery, situated above a busy printers’ premises on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street (above the now vacant Boots the Chemists site), was established in answer to a specific lack in provision in the city and the West of Scotland to showcase emerging modern painters’ work. This round table will begin with New Charing Cross Gallery’s history and move to wider discussions on different artist-run initiative models in Glasgow. The discussion brings together speakers including Ivory Tars, Celine, Deborah Jackson and Nikki Kane. This event is part of the exhibition programme for ‘Bet Low: An island on your doorstep’, Reid Gallery, The Glasgow School of Art (11 January – 8 February 2025). It is a dream castle. When I arrived, it was the April holiday, there were almost no people on the road, only the old buildings stood in the cold air, solemn and heavy, which was awe-inspiring.

We came here on a spontaneous visit one Sunday afternoon in January and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our wee boy loved seeing the &ldquo;old fashioned house&rdquo; and was so well looked after by all the staff, from the cash register to the flat and back out again.We went round twice (with a shift change between visits!) and the insight into one story of no doubt thousands like it in Glasgow was fantastic. Plus our boy thoroughly enjoyed colouring in his wallie dug. A hidden gem that is well worth the wander through Garnethill.

This museum is a place where people have to punch in. I especially like the oil paintings in the museum. After seeing it, I feel a great enjoyment. The museum is also a favorite place for primary and secondary school students.

Glasgow Cathedral

It is said that it can be traced back to the famous William Conquest period. It was built to commemorate St. Diego. It took hundreds of years to build and has been around for nearly a thousand years. It is the oldest religious building in the entire Scottish region. It is also a must-see for tourists.

George Square is located in the heart of Glasgow, and it is very convenient to take a train or subway. You can sunbathe in the square on a good day. Near the famous store street, you can buy hand letters, clothes, shoes and socks. There are also many restaurants to choose from. George Square is a must-see attraction. In addition to admiring the architecture of the square; at different festivals, such as Christmas, the square will be transformed into a mobile playground full of dynamic and happy atmosphere.
