The event will be hosted by leading cultural commentator, Alistair Braidwood. This is an opportunity to listen to excerpts from Matilda In The Middle read by the memoir's author, Katy Lironi. Also featuring an acoustic musical set from Katy (The Fizzbombs, The Secret Goldfish) and Douglas MacIntyre (Article 58, The Secret Goldfish, Sexual Objects, Port Sulphur). There will also be an opportunity to buy a copy or copies of Katy's memoir, signed by the author.
Katy’s story is first and foremost, a musical, family memoir. Both parents come with their own lives immersed in the Scottish music scene of the 1980s – Katy enmeshed in everything that was Edinburgh-based C86 indie pop, while her bandmate and future husband, Douglas MacIntyre, embraced the Scottish post-punk era. At the turn of the century, just as the the couple’s musical projects are in the midst of a creative overload, children start to appear at an alarming rate. Six years and five children later, SandFest was born – raising thousands of pounds over the next decade for Down’s Syndrome charities. A family. Functioning. JUST – music is always there to save the day. At the centre of this family saga is the indomitable spirit of middle child, Matilda, whose Down Syndrome is, in equal parts, challenging and an amazing gift within the family dynamic! In part, with the raw and unflinching honesty Katy tells of her encounters with the medical profession and educational authorities, which can be described as alternating between difficult and wonderful. We came here on a spontaneous visit one Sunday afternoon in January and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our wee boy loved seeing the &ldquo;old fashioned house&rdquo; and was so well looked after by all the staff, from the cash register to the flat and back out again.

We went round twice (with a shift change between visits!) and the insight into one story of no doubt thousands like it in Glasgow was fantastic. Plus our boy thoroughly enjoyed colouring in his wallie dug. A hidden gem that is well worth the wander through Garnethill.

This is simply a dream castle. When I arrived, it was the April holiday, and there were almost no people on the road. Only the ancient buildings stood in the cold air, solemn and heavy, which made people feel awe.

George Square is located in Glasgow city center and is very conveniently accessible by train or subway. On nice days, you can sunbathe and watch pigeons in the square. It is close to the famous shopping street, where you can buy souvenirs, clothes, shoes and socks. There are also many restaurants and eateries to choose from. 
George Square is a must-see attraction. In addition to admiring the architecture of the square;during different festivals, such as Christmas, the square is built into a Christmas Market, becoming a dynamic and happy atmosphere.
