Tales – folk, fairy and epic – have a timeless quality. They are islands of memory and insight if we give them time to talk to us. The first half of this masterclass will let us look at how memory works and the place of imagination; making meaning of myths. We will work with myths from selected cultures, about women and seasons. While myths are universal, what makes them distinctive and can we recall local ones? The second half of this masterclass is to engage in writing. We will work with metaphor and its power in creative writing with our unique imagination and signature. Please bring, wear or carry an object that is precious to you to the masterclass. The session will be run by Vayu Naidu. Vayu did her doctoral research on oral traditions and performance storytelling. Her fiction combines myths and epics and contemporary situations in a tapestry that unveils the human condition, our strength through our vulnerability. She is Professor of Practice at SOAS, Lecturer in Indian Theatre at RADA, and an RLF Fellow. She volunteers at Chelsea Physic Garden. The session will be held at the Jubilee Library in Brighton and will run from 10-4pm with an hour for lunch. The venue is fully accessible, near the train station and bus routes and with plenty of options for lunch (including bringing your own). The workshop is part of a series of one-day masterclasses held in the summer They are open to existing students on the Creative Writing Programme and other writers looking to improve specific areas of their writing craft.  The summer masterclasses are: 10-4pm 13th June (Kemptown Bookshop, Brighton) Life writing and imagination –Hannah Vincent 10-4pm 14th June (Jubilee Library, Brighton) Timeless Tales : making meaning of myths and writing new ones – Vayu Naidu 11-5pm 15th June (Jubilee Library, Brighton) Writing crime – Graham Bartlett 10-4pm 28th June (online) Exploring experimental fiction – Charlie Hill 10-4pm 29th June (online) Writing Short stories – Henry Tydeman First year students on the Creative Writing Programme receive two free masterclasses a year as part of their programme fee and can book the free places. Other writers need to pay for a place which costs £62.50 for the online masterclass and £75 for the in-person ones. Tickets are non-refundable except under exceptional circumstances. My friends who study in the local area told me that this Jubilee Library is their favorite for international students, because the seats are very comfortable, the overall environment is also very good, the lighting is sufficient, the sun can shine in, and the environment is very good. The collection volume is also very rich.

We were there on a weekend and mainly walked outside, looking at the gardens and the architecture. We didn&rsquo;t go inside as their hours of operation didn&rsquo;t coincide with the time we were there and had available. Great place to stroll, people watch, or have a picnic, weather permitting.

Had my first date here with my partner and we hadthe best time. An amazing aquarium with abeautiful atmosphere, lights and gorgeouscreatures! I love animals and fish and seeing themhere was wonderful. Staff were lovely and veryknowledgeable. The place was clean, easy tonavigate and extremely ambient and beautiful. We went on a Thursday afternoon so was pretty quiet!

One of the best piers in the South of England. There is lots to do with tons of seaside rides, fun arcade games and food. Highly recommend catching the sunset here and if you&rsquo;re lucky you might catch the starlings dancing at dusk, I didn&rsquo;t know they do this and it was the most spectacular striking and stunning natural phenomenon I had seen, it was mesmerising. Highest chances of seeing the starlings dance is between November-March, we visited in early March

more like a downtown touristy place with many cafes and cosmetic shops. very easy to get lost while looking for some place on maps. almost did when i was lookong for Mac cosmetics...you will find Jo Malone, Bobby Brown and Mac cosmetics all in one small area. and coffee shops too. on my second attempt i was looking for pizza express and i almost missed it. hehehh the lanes is one place that gets you wondering what exactly is going on with your maps application. definately recomend you to not miss it while in brighton. on your way to lanes you will meet Tmax the famous brand discount shop and boy, you will thank me then.
