Learn the art of creating your own natural art supplies by foraging and finding materials. This immersive class will teach you how to make natural dye paint, homemade charcoal, DIY paintbrushes, and more! In the past, the process of creating art materials was separate from the artmaking itself, but this class aims to reintegrate the two. By using materials from your environment, you can forge a deeper connection with your ecosystem while enhancing your artistic practice.

Led by Alchemy staff member and artist Katey Rissi, this hands-on class will guide you through the process of creating your own nature-made drawing and painting supplies. Together, we will craft watercolor palettes using plants, build bonfires to make our own charcoal, and assemble pens, charcoal holders, and paintbrushes using found materials. The class will also provide an opportunity to create small artworks on handmade paper.

Located in the print studio of the main art building on the AAC campus in Friday Harbor, this class offers a serene and conducive environment for artistic exploration.
