The Czech Center is proud to launch its

 series, exploring contemporary discussions at the intersection of culture, politics, and social sciences. Our first guest is award-winning Czech journalist and documentary filmmaker Apolena Rychlíková.
In this intimate masterclass, Apolena will discuss her recent films, 
The Limits of Work
 (2017) and 
Limits of Europe
 (2024), as well as her major investigative journalism projects, including her exposé on Czech politician Dominik Feri and her investigation into criminal activity on Czech Discord servers involving the trafficking of intimate images and videos of women. She will also talk about 
Pagenotfound.cz
, the independent platform she runs with Jakub Zelenka, and the challenges and advantages of independent journalism.
Apolena Rychlíková
 (b. 1989) is a Czech filmmaker and journalist working for the website 
A2larm
. She graduated from FAMU’s Department of Documentary Film in Prague. As an opinion journalist, she writes for Czech public radio and collaborates with various Czech media as a filmmaker and writer.
Her feature documentary 
Limits of Work
 was named Best Czech Documentary in the Czech Joy section at the 21st Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival and also won the Audience Prize and the Czech Film Critics’ Award in 2017. That same year, she received the award for Best Czech Opinion Journalism. She is considered one of the most established young journalists in the Czech Republic.
Apolena’s work focuses on public issues such as racism, gender equality, poverty, discrimination, social inequality, housing, and labor conditions. In 2020, she became a member of the council of Progressive International, a global organization uniting and mobilizing progressive thinkers, activists, and organizations.
She has two daughters and believes a better world is possible.

Metropolitan Museum of Art: Inception Space for Human Civilization This 130,000 square-metre maze hides a larger landscape than the New York skyline. It is recommended to start your time-travel from the Greek and Roman exhibition halls - the sun shines through the glass dome on the 6th century BC marble statues, the lines of the muscles of the gods are still breathing. The temple of the Danyu Temple in the Egyptian Pavilion is the most breathtaking. The complete 15th century BC temple was moved by the wealthy in 1965 and is now soaked in artificial pools, the water reflects the modern tourists, forming a absurd space-time shadow. The Statue of Liberty: Green Rust Mottled American Fable This bronze sculpture presented by the French has long been the most expensive postcard in New York. A must-visit spot in NYC! Rockefeller Center is not just iconic&mdash;it&rsquo;s also incredibly functional. Walking through the building is a great experience, with beautiful architecture, vibrant public spaces, and plenty of food options in and around the concourse. One of the best features is the subway station right in the lower level, making it super easy to get to. And of course, it&rsquo;s home to my favorite observation deck in the city&mdash;Top of the Rock. The views are unbeatable!
