Over the course of a few years, the Brampton Arts Organization officially became an independent non-profit arts organization as part of a multiyear agreement with the City of Brampton. It was the culmination of many years of work and marked the start of a new chapter for the arts and culture sector in Brampton. In this learning and professional development event Michael Vickers (Executive Director, Brampton Arts Organization) and Jeanne LeSage (LeSage Arts Management) will share the process, the challenges, and positive outcomes of this change. The Durham Region Arts & Culture Collaborative is a group of individuals committed to the sector and will bring a series of events together over the next year that delve into the recent recommendations in a mapping report on the sector. An equitable, creative perspective on city building across disciplines, sectors, and stakeholders. Prior to his current position as Executive Director at the Brampton Arts Organization, Michael had roles at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Toronto, Akin Projects, Monte Clark Gallery, Pace Gallery, and Ottawa Art Gallery. Jeanne LeSage is a highly respected and trusted senior arts management professional with national and international experience in festivals and multidisciplinary performing arts. She is a sought-after consultant, educator and conference speaker working across Canada with a unique specialization and expertise in Arts HR. Jeanne has an MBA in Executive Management with a specialization in Management Consulting, and is registered as a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL). LeSage Arts Management is a consulting practice based in Toronto that provides counsel, solutions, and support to arts organizations in areas such as strategic human resources, organizational development, leadership succession, board relations, operations, interim management and more. LeSage Arts Management was borne out of 30+ years of excellence in executive arts management across multiple artistic disciplines nationally and internationally by owner and principal, Jeanne LeSage. Pru Robey, of Pru Robey Consulting, is a trusted adviser negotiating bespoke and innovative solutions to complex problems, Pru Robey’s 30+ years of creative sector leadership in Canada and the UK allows her to navigate challenging, multi-dimensional, multi-sector projects with discretion, nuance, and sound judgment. As an independent consultant in the UK and Canada Pru has advised on creative placemaking in large-scale urban development projects, creative space development and operation, and strategic planning and governance for arts organizations. Pru started her career as an arts center and theatre manager in London, UK, and was Vice President at Artscape, Toronto (2007-2017).
