Children aged 4 years and above now have the opportunity to participate in a 4-day Learn to Ride course, consisting of four 1-hour sessions. This course has been specifically designed for children between the ages of 4 and 10 who wish to learn how to ride a bike with pedals. It is highly recommended that 4-year-olds first attend our Balance Bike course before joining this program.

During the Learn to Ride course, children will acquire the necessary skills and confidence to ride a bike independently. They will be taught how to fit a helmet, mount and dismount the bike, balance, steer, brake, and pedal. In the first three sessions, the seats will be lowered and the pedals removed from the children's bikes. This setup allows them to learn the necessary skills while still being able to touch the ground if they lose their balance. This safety measure helps them feel secure, leading to increased confidence. On the fourth session, the pedals will be reattached, and the children will learn how to perform the skills while pedaling.

The course will take place on the following dates: Monday, February 19th; Tuesday, February 20th; Wednesday, February 21st; and Thursday, February 22nd. Each session will be held indoors in the sports hall at St Joseph's College, located on Belstead Road in Ipswich (IP2 9DR). It is important for parents to attend and observe all sessions, as this allows them to understand the skills being taught and assist their child with practice outside of the sessions.

The cost for this 4-session, 1-hour course is £50 per child, plus a small booking fee. Participants should bring their own bike and helmet if available. If needed, bikes can be borrowed, and helmets can be provided upon request. Suitable bike helmets are required to be worn at all times during the course. Participants should wear comfortable clothing suitable for indoor and outdoor conditions, with long sleeve tops and soft trousers recommended for comfort. Please note that skirts and dresses are not recommended attire.
