What prompts activists to attack famous works of art in an attempt to spotlight the climate crisis? And why do people knock down statues when power changes hands? In the exhibition Iconoclasm – Art as a Battleground, the Glyptotek tells the story of our tempestuous relationship with art and what compels us to destroy it.
For millennia, humans have not only erected statues, but also knocked them down or changed and destroyed them. Because, even though monuments are often made of durable materials such as marble and bronze, the ideologies, people and events they commemorate and preserve are rarely as enduring.
Iconoclasm is not only a phenomenon of antiquity – art is still a battleground: one on which power relations and identities are challenged.
The word ‘iconoclasm’ comes from the ancient Greek word eikon and a derivation of klaein (to smash or crush) and describes the deliberate destruction of images, monuments or symbols. The Glyptotek’s antiquities collection contains myriad examples of archaeological artifacts that were deliberately destroyed. Some of the destruction was motivated by political power shifts and religious upheavals; some was the result of economic and practical circumstances.

The Little Mermaid

I visited the Little Mermaid statue in Denmark on a solo trip during winter. The cold breeze from the sea and the quiet atmosphere made the experience feel even more magical. The statue itself is smaller than I expected, but its delicate expression and connection to Andersen&rsquo;s fairytale give it a unique charm. Since it was off-season, there weren&rsquo;t many tourists, which allowed me to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. It&rsquo;s a simple yet iconic landmark worth seeing at least once.

the Harbor in Copenhagen is the highlight of the city. The classic buildings and boats are worth the sight. Food is a little bit expensive in the area, but it&rsquo;s worth catching a beer if you&rsquo;re into that.

We arrived at 2 pm and were very lucky to see the changing ceremony of the Royal Guard. I felt that the hat of the Guard was too high, which would make the guards look shorter than they were actually, and it looked less beautiful when we left. We didn&#39;t enter the palace, just strolled outside. The appearance of the palace is quite spectacular. It is said that the Danish flag will be raised when the Queen lives here. If you want to see the cavalry change, it is recommended to come at 12 noon.

The park is the best part of the castle. It&rsquo;s stunning with lots of trees and flowers. To enter the castle, you need to buy a ticket stick to time. So it&rsquo;s best to book online first. It takes about 1h to see inside of the castle.

A lot of activities and restaurants in such a small area, we went on every rides apart from the two swings because it was very cold that day. (5th April) Waiting lines were short which was very worthy, rides were fun, especially the one around the mini mountain, which we went on 3 times. Quite a few food options inside the park, or you can also go to the Tivoli Food Hall that requires an return entry stamp. The scenery is also very pretty where we managed to saw a peacock walking around and some ducks in the lake as well. Additionally, very pretty during the evening and night times. Highly recommend for roller coaster lovers!!
