Hughsey's Marathon Swim Come join us for an epic 2 days of swimming at David Lloyd Dudley and help us raise money for a very worthwhile cause! Whether you're a seasoned swimmer or just dipping your toes in the water, this event is perfect for all levels. In 2023 Iain Hughes, a much respected and loved member of West Midlands Fire Service's Technical Rescue Unit, tragically lost his life whilst attempting to swim the English Channel to raise money for a number of charities, including the Fire Fighters Charity. On the 16th and 17th May, friends and colleagues of Iain will be taking part in a 36 hour marathon swim at David Lloyds Club in Brierley Hill, where Iain used to train. Swimmers will be setting off on the hour, every hour with the goal of swimming as many lengths as they can in one go. It doesn't matter how many or how fast, we just want everyone to join in and enjoy themselves doing something Iain was so passionate about. All money raised during this event will go to the Fire Fighters Charity and be used to fund a project at one of their national rehabilitation centres. It will be dedicated to Iain's memory and will be there to help firefighters and their families across the country Hughesy’s Marathon Swim - Joining Instructions · All swimmers will need to book a hour long slot through this website · By volunteering you are accepting that you are fit and able to take part in swimming in a pool which has a maximum depth of 1.2m. Mobility issues can be catered for, please make us aware on the booking form. · We are looking for you to swim as many lengths as you can in one go (short breaks are allowed!) in you one hour slot. It doesn’t matter if that’s 10 or 100, we just want you to enjoy yourself!
