Filmmaker, muzikant maar vooral geboren verteller Leon Giesen kan als geen ander stilstaan bij zaken waar de meeste mensen, op het eerste gezicht totaal terecht, straal aan voorbij lopen. Hij daarentegen gaat op onderzoek en ontdekt de wonderlijkste dingen. Die deelt hij weer in Mondo Leone (De Wereld van Leon). Een even vanzelfsprekende als unieke combinatie van film, muziek en natuurlijk verhaal.
Als documentairemaker won hij een televisieprijs: ‘Het Gouden Beeld’, voor zijn film 'Van America helemaal naar Amerika’, over Rowwen Hèze. Hij liet dit vergulde beeldje in plakken zagen en creëerde zo zijn eigen prijs: ‘Het Gouden Randje’. Voor mensen die, zonder dat iemand er om gevraagd had, geprobeerd hebben de wereld een beetje mooier te maken.
Een ‘Gouden Randje’ ging naar het prachtige akkoord dat treinen in Amerika toeteren. Een ander naar het werk van Ben Wilson die in Londen, op plakjes kauwgom op de stoep, miniatuurschilderijtjes maakt. Maar ook andere verrassende en soms ontroerende initiatieven werden door Leon Giesen op zijn eigen manier geëerd.
Op 28 februari zal hij in Het Verhalenhuis, met film en muziek, een aantal van deze inspirerende verhalen vertellen.
