In this three hour workshop, you will explore the gratifying process of painting with gouache on Japanese paper. Learn to mix colours, use various brush techniques, learn out about washi paper and how it loves gouache. Through repetition, you will gain confidence working with this medium. No previous experience is necessary. The group will explore weeds, a still life of fruit and vegetables, landscape, or a personal image. Different brushes and how they affect the application of paint. As well and colour mixing basics and skills such as making a flat transition from light to dark and from colour to colour. The workshop will be divided into 3 projects, each approximately 1 hour in length. An assortment of washi (Japanese paper) including Heritage Washi, palettes, misters, and water vessels will be supplied by The Japanese Paper Place. Please noteWe encourage you to purchase Holbein Traditional Gouache colours from ARTiculations Art Supply either in person or online. ARTiculations have stock for this group and will be happy to assist you. The Japanese Paper Place will have one complete set of the recommended colours (including the three specials) available for sharing. If you decide to purchase your gouache elsewhere, or already have some of your own, please note that we will using Traditional Gouache(please do not bring acrylic gouache). About Robert Achtemichuk:
Born in rural Saskatchewan, Robert Achtemichuk studied fine arts at the University of Manitoba and the National Autonomous University of Mexico, specializing in printmaking. Back in Canada Achtemichuk taught in universities and then became the executive director at Open Studio in Toronto, a Canadian fine art printmaking gallery and studios. His prints and paintings have been shown in public and private galleries across Canada, most recently at Open Sesame. Robert is based in Kitchener, Ontario.
