Join curator Margot Riley at the State Library of New South Wales in Sydney for an exclusive look back at the history of lawn tennis through the Library’s impressive sporting collections. Australians have always had a deep love for tennis, and in January each year, they take center court as the world’s top players gather to compete in the first major tournament of the year. 

The game of tennis arrived in Australia in the early 1870s and quickly became a popular sport among friends and families. Thanks to the increasing enthusiasm for the game, tennis clubs began to spread across the country. Intercolonial competitions held in Sydney and Melbourne from 1885 became the breeding ground for local champions. In 1904, the first Australasian international team was formed to compete in the Davis Cup, and in 1905, the Australian Open was inaugurated, establishing Australian players among the world’s best ever since. 

During this special event, visitors will have the opportunity to see rare examples of early Australian tennis memorabilia and hear captivating stories about the game’s evolution and its key players. Margot Riley, a cultural historian and curator at the State Library of NSW, will guide you through the Library’s remarkable collection and share her expertise on art, popular culture, photography, and dress. How to live, come to the, always have to sit, but it is an ordinary cable car is very steep but the speed is very slow, there will be no weightlessness. It is recommended to play this project first after coming. After going down, you can turn around on the trail of the mountain road. It will not be very hard.

It was a very happy trip. I saw the place where the whales live. I was really happy. I will definitely go there again next time. It is worth it. Several friends said that they must come again next year.
