Australians have always had a deep love for tennis, and in January each year, they take center court as the world’s top players gather to compete in the first major tournament of the year. 

The game of tennis arrived in Australia in the early 1870s and quickly became a popular sport among friends and families. Thanks to the increasing enthusiasm for the game, tennis clubs began to spread across the country. Intercolonial competitions held in Sydney and Melbourne from 1885 became the breeding ground for local champions. In 1904, the first Australasian international team was formed to compete in the Davis Cup, and in 1905, the Australian Open was inaugurated, establishing Australian players among the world’s best ever since. 

During this special event, visitors will have the opportunity to see rare examples of early Australian tennis memorabilia and hear captivating stories about the game’s evolution and its key players. Margot Riley, a cultural historian and curator at the State Library of NSW, will guide you through the Library’s remarkable collection and share her expertise on art, popular culture, photography, and dress. The characteristic mountain view around Sydney, about 2-2.5 hours drive from the city, there are three cable car lines, the most exciting red is recommended to sit down, the blue is the most flat, you can go down the red cable car to the bottom trail after the tour, change to a yellow cable car in blue, the yellow cable car has a glass bottom, Traveling between the cliffs, there is a waterfall on one side, and the trail below has a dinosaur world that children are more interested in.
