Join curator Dave Riep for a captivating Gallery Tour of the Shattering Perspectives exhibition, featuring the teaching collection of African ceramics at the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art in Fort Collins. Led by Associate Curator of African Art and Associate Professor of Art History, Dave Riep, this tour delves into the symbolism, techniques, and functions of pottery, while challenging misconceptions about African artists. Through hands-on engagements and theoretical dialogue, viewers gain unique insights into the art versus artifact debate and the visual expressions of identity.

Originally produced in collaboration with Colorado State University students in Spring 2020, this encore exhibition showcases the students' roles as co-curators, authors, and exhibition designers. Their exploration of museum display politics and poetics has resulted in a dynamic and thought-provoking showcase.

This free tour is open to all and takes place on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m. at the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art. Dave Riep is an esteemed curator and art historian specializing in the arts of Africa. His passion for documenting and contextualizing African arts has led him to produce several documentary films, providing valuable resources for classrooms. Riep's dedication to promoting cultural heritage and education is evident through his involvement in the Africa Meets Africa project, which produces interactive learning materials for the South African public school system.
