Miaoli City Office held the 2025 "Miaoli (Fire Dragon)" series of activities. The (Fire Dragon) is a unique Lantern Festival activity exclusive to Miaoli Hakka. Since 1998, Miaoli City Office has begun to organize the "Miaoli (Fire Dragon)" activity, and it has been selected as one of the 12 major festivals of Hakka Village by the Hakka Affairs Council. It has entered its 27th year and has become an important festival of the Lantern Festival along with the "Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival in the North", "Yanshui Beehive Fireworks in the South" and "Zhahandan in the East".
The Fire Dragon is an activity of the Hakka people. It was spread from the Hakka native place in mainland China to Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty. Although it was at its peak in the 1940s and 1950s, it gradually declined and was forgotten after the 1960s. Since 1998, Miaoli City Office has been actively organizing the "Huo Pang Long Event" that belongs to Miaoli and the Hakka people. This extremely special folk festival cultural activity of the Lantern Festival, which was originally a folk festival, has been promoted through perfect planning and cultural and creative marketing. In addition to making the four words "Miaoli Huo Pang Long" an inseparable noun, it has also made Miaoli's most representative folk festival event one of the four major Lantern Festival celebrations in Taiwan, along with "Bee Firecrackers in the South, Sky Lanterns in the North, Huo Pang Long in the Center, and Cold Lanterns in the East."
