Joyfully Different is turning A WHOLE YEAR OLD on 3rd October, and to celebrate we’re inviting you to join us for a celebratory evening of neurodivergent comedy and fun. Don’t worry though, that doesn’t mean you have to listen to Mark’s questionable jokes all night… we’ve got the professionals in to perform for you! We’re partnering up for the evening with Lava Elastic, the UK's first openly neurodiverse comedy and poetry night. Neurodivergent performers often struggle to get booked, they might struggle to navigate the social codes around dealing with promoters, they may also struggle with organisation, and as a result of all these things there are plenty of talented people out there you simply don't get to see often… Lava Elastic was created to change that! Vive la difference! Lava Elastic was set by late-diagnosed performer and comedy/poetry promoter Sarah Saeed. Sarah got her diagnosis of autism in 2016 and then a diagnosis of ADHD in 2021, and has been performing and running her own performance might for several years so she had plenty of lived experience of these challenges herself. Since starting in 2017 Lava Elastic ran in Brighton for several years and then got Arts Council funding to do a couple of small tours to great responses from theatres in Manchester, Bristol, Kent and Stock-on-Tees amongst others. The event on the 3rd October is a special event especially for the Joyfully Different network. As usual the performers on the evening are brilliant, varied and the nights are always fun! Meet the performersCallum BrazzoCallum is an autistic performance poet, clothing brand Founder (Aut Couture) and TEDx speaker living in Lincolnshire. He aims to empower the autistic and otherwise neurodivergent community and be a bridge between them via his artistic endeavours...and has already been doing a great job of this so far. PaggyThe ‘endearingly eccentric’ Paggy Gacheva is an award-nominated autistic comedian with a high-energy style. Paggy is the creator of Stimmicanto, a 4-star solo show about autistic joy. Her comedy ‘manages to subvert every expectation’ and is described as ‘highly original and clever’. Get ready for a journey through a literal mind where unfiltered joy is strictly encouraged. Georgia ApsionLeicester Comedy Festival 2024 Silver Comedian finalist Georgia Apsion is a stand-up comic and writer, telling big-hearted tales from her life as a reluctant Brighton matriarch, maker of men, late bloomer and late diagnosis. Joel Cooper aka ‘The Porter’The Porter has been schlepping around kitchens forever and has seen many things. The comic creation of Joel Cooper, The Porter is a character based on Joel’s real-life adventures in kitchens. Like the time a Michelin star chef gave him vanilla-flavoured scrambled eggs. Which he called custard. Or the time he worked in two kitchens simultaneously at the place where Strictly Come Dancing is filmed. In 2022 and 2023 The Porter performed in Brighton at Brighton Open Air Theatre, Scratch Meet at The Rosehill, and the ‘Arts Cafe’ scratch nights run by Carousel. Joel Cooper is a comedian who just happens to be autistic, dual-heritage black and Jewish, pansexual and, of course, lives in Brighton.
