Daniel Gumbiner's literary prowess has garnered him a National Book Award nomination for his previous book, The Boatbuilder, which was also a finalist for the California Book Awards. As Editor of The Believer magazine and a 2022–23 Hermitage Fellow, Gumbiner's influence extends well beyond his acclaimed writing. He currently resides in Oakland, CA.

Joining Daniel is Rita Bullwinkel, author of the critically acclaimed novels Headshot and Belly Up, recipient of the prestigious 2022 Whiting Award. Bullwinkel's exceptional writing has graced the pages of esteemed publications such as ZYZZYVA, Tin House, The White Review, Conjunctions, BOMB, Vice, NOON, and Guernica.
