This is a special Fire&Dust event to celebrate the Cork-Coventry Twin Cities Poetry Exchange 2024! Fire & Dust is a monthly poetry open mic in Coventry city centre, hosted by local poets Ann Atkins and Raef Boylan. All welcome - 'page' poets, spoken word artists, slammers, MCs, story-tellers and anyone happy to listen to some wordsmith performances. Doors open for people to come in, grab seats and get settled around 7.30pm. The gig will start at 8PM.
Open mic slots are 3 minutes per poet. Find Raef (probably near the door with a clipboard) to sign up! Travelling in from afar? Got accessibility concerns? Any queries? Please contact the hosts: raef @ hcemagazine DOT com
Bring friends, bring poems, or just come along for a listen! Take precautions to stay safe and keep others around you safe - respect people's preference to keep their distance, and please don't attend if you suspect you might have Covid (or anything else contagious). Cheers. - -------------------------------------------------------------- NEW OPEN MIC SYSTEM: Some open mic tickets are available to reserve here on Eventbrite; the rest are for sign-up on the night. Priority will be given to poets who didn't get to read last month. If you read last month and want to read again, your name will go into the tub for random draw to fill empty slots. Most poets who want to read WILL get to, but sometimes the list is too busy to fit everyone in!
Please do not register for a ticket if you had one last month. - -------------------------------------------------------------- The LTB is a short walk from Coventry train station / Pool Meadow bus station, and not far at all from our previous venue (Cafe Morso) Info about nearby car parks and street parking by The LTB can be found on this website. - -------------------------------------------------------------- SPECIAL GUEST POET: CÉDRIC BIKOND NKOMA + CATHERINE RONAN  Cédric Bikond Nkoma is a tinkerer and a traveller since 2004, based in Cork since 2014. He is French and from Paris. He is a long time contributor to Cork's regular poetry event, O'Bhéal. Some of his works have appeared in the 'Five Words' collections 2016, 2020, 2021 and 2022. He has been a featured poet in the Winter Warmer festival, Sling Slang, World Book Festival and Many Tongues of Cork. He since then joined the Blue Mondays poetry collective. Cédric's writing works revolve around Slices of life, Drama and inner Dialogues, all with a grain of magic. Catherine Ronan won the Winter Solstice Poetry Competition and co-curated Bandon as Poetry Town for Poetry Ireland. Publications include Woman Scream, Cork Words, Swerve, Ó Bhéal, Blue Mondays, Drawn to the Light and Long Island Sounds, New York. She has been a featured reader at the Cork International Book Festival, Winter Warmer, Words by Water, Lime Square Poets, Cultivating Voices, DeBarra’s and the Electric Picnic. Her Poetry has been chosen for Poetry in the Park and Heritage Projects. Her Poetry Collection, Elemental Skin was published by Revival Press in 2023 and nominated for the Forward, Pigott and Heaney Poetry Prize. - -------------------------------------------------------------- Free entry.
