National Trust Route – Three Peaks: Corn Du, Pen y Fan, and Cribyn Storey Arms Car Park, Libanus, Brecon LD3 8NL Sat, 1st Mar 2024 08:30 - 16:00 GMT Meet: 08:30 (08:45) Start 09:05 Length: 10km Route type: Circular Pen y Fan is the highest peak in South Wales, situated in Brecon Beacons National Park. At 886 metres above sea-level. It is also the highest British peak south of Snowdonia. The UK special forces also use this mountain range as part of their fitness and navigation phase of the selection process. You are invited to join us as we take on the challenge to summit the three peaks of Brecon, Corn Du, Pen y Fan and Cribyn in potentially icey/cold conditions. This is a circular mountain walk approx. 10km (six miles) on well-made footpaths. If weather permits, you can enjoy building a snowman at the top and if the skies are clear you will have views of the town of Brecon, and on a good day, the summit of Cadair Idris (Snowdonia). • This is a moderate climb with some steep steps near the summit. Therefore, to attend this event, your walking/hiking abilities should be at moderate and above. • Wheel chair access is challenging due to uneven surfaces and narrow paths throughout the trail. • It will take approx. two hours to reach Pen y Fan at a comfortable pace with plenty of stops for water, and take in the views. The Details. - Meeting Point: Storey Arms Outdoor Activity Centre, Libanus, Brecon, LD3 8NL - (Red Phone Box) - Meeting Time: 08:30 – 08:45hr – We shall trail blaze from 09:05hr - Summit of Corn Du, Pen y Fan and Cribyn, we will have a large window for food, photos and good banter. - End Time: 14:00 - 15:00hr – Although we will not be rushing, the intent will be to get back within a certain time window for logistical reasons. - Please car share where possible. If you cannot drive or not confident in driving to location, please drop me a message or ask within the whatsapp community chap to see if anyone locally can arrange a car share for you. The important bits: Cost: £20 per head via Eventbrite. The above cost is non-refundable so please ensure you can go before booking. You’re welcome to fill your place if you can no longer go and the onus to arrange this shall remain your reasonability. Given notice, I am also happy to advertise this for you across my social media but I cannot guarantee that your space will be filled, more so at short notice. Please see below a basic kit list for guidance: Basic Kit List. - Walking boots/Trainers with grip. - Warm walking socks -Theraml Shorts / Tights / Walking trousers - Light weight walking or wind proof / waterproof jacket - Fleece or Warm Jumper / Hoodie -Base layer / long sleeve top - Warm Hat / Beenie / Sunglasses / Sun cream -Warm gloves (windrpoof/waterproof recommended) - Comfortable / Appropriate hiking bag / daysack / rucksack (preferabley not a backpack) - 2 litres minimum of water (camelbak/ hydration bladder/ water bottle) - Food (lunch for the summit, snacks for morale) - Walking poles (optional) - Personal mini first aid kit (pain killers, blister plasters, Vaseline, insect repellent, toilet paper, wet wipes, prescribed medication) - Mobile phone should be near or on full charge. *OS Map: Explorer OL12 (there is no requirement to have a route map for this event) Any additional equipment will be your own personal preference and your own reasonability. My advice would be to pack light and check the weather 24 hours and 12 hours prior to event. If you are bringing a dog, please make sure you have additional water and food. Dogs must be kept on the lead near livestock, near and at the summit for obvious safety reasons as well as the law of the land. This will be a fun, relaxed event that will be challenging in places due to the terrain and enviroment, such as the temperture of the weather. The intent is for us all to have a great time interacting with one another. If you wish to raise charitable funds on this hike, you are welcome to do this.
