Details

Discover the fascinating stories behind a selection of captivating images recently added to the State Library of NSW collections at the event "Every picture tells a story: Capturing daily life in NSW." From sketches to oil paintings, the library acquires pictures from various sources, each with its unique narrative. These collections encompass a wide range of subjects, including people, events, buildings, and landscapes spanning from the late eighteenth century to the present day. The aim is to preserve images that reflect the lived experiences of individuals in the state and their connection to the world. Curators Elise Edmonds and Margot Riley will delve into the histories behind these intriguing visuals. Elise Edmonds, from the Collection Acquisition & Curation branch, has curated exhibitions on significant First World War collections and other historical narratives. Margot Riley, a cultural historian with a focus on art and photography, has curated numerous exhibitions at the State Library. Join us at the Maps Room, First Floor Mitchell Building, Sydney, NSW 2000, on May 8, 2024, for this enriching experience. Admission is free.
