Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Barcelona (Region)
This interesting historic district has a rich cultural history that complements the luxurious buildings, golf courses and marinas along the beach. The gastronomy of Sitges brings together the most representative Catalan dishes, creating exquisite recipes such as the "xató".
Sitges is one of the most representative towns on the Costa del Garraf, Barcelona's south coast. Sitges’ beaches with pristine waters (some of which have been awarded the Blue Flag eco-label) and nearby mountains make it a unique destination. The city center is also worth a visit. It has beautiful religious buildings such as the Church of San Bartomeu and the Church of Santa Tecla. The 19th century Gothic Revival building Casa de la Vila and the Palau Maricel with Renaissance, Baroque and Medieval elements are other interesting attractions in the city. The modernist aesthetic of the late 19th and early 20th centuries left beautiful buildings in Sitges, such as Cau Ferrat, the home-studio of writer and painter Santiago Rusiñol. The artist moved to Sitges in 1891 and turned it into a meeting point for artists and intellectuals, giving it the bohemian feel it still retains today.
