As a Kanien’keha:ka (Mohawk) artist of mixed heritage, Barbara draws inspiration from her roots in Kahnawake, bringing Indigenous themes, stories, and perspectives to the forefront. Her work has received widespread recognition, including the prestigious Dora Mavor Award for Outstanding Touring Production in 2022 and the Best Choreography of an Outdoor Show in Festival Quartiers Danses in 2019. In 2021, she was honored with the Prix de la danse de Montréal in the DANCER category.

Through A'no:wara Dance Theatre, Barbara and her team create professional dance works that fuse traditional powwow and Haudenosaunee dance with contemporary styles, resulting in a unique and captivating fusion that appeals to a diverse audience.
