Experience the artistic journey of Yeo Shih Yun墨非 at the semi-retrospective exhibition, DEFY INK. Showcasing the artist's early works, this exhibition is a collection of pieces acquired by five dedicated art patrons during the Singapore Art Week in 2024. It serves as a milestone for Yeo as she reflects on the essence of her early artistic endeavors and explores the endless possibilities that lie ahead in her new studio.

Inspired by John Cage's aleatoric approach to compositions, Yeo pushes the boundaries of ink, redefining it as her symbolic medium for art-making. Through her persistence and commitment, ink becomes more than just a mere mark; it becomes a powerful expression of her artistic vision.

The exhibition will take place at INSTINC ART SPACE, located at 39 Keppel Road, #03-10 Tanjong Pagar Distripark, Singapore 089065. Running from January 17th to February 4th, 2024, the exhibition will be open from Wednesday to Sunday, between 1pm and 8pm. Additionally, curator tours will be held on January 20th, January 27th, and February 3rd, 2024 at 2pm.

Curated by the esteemed Arielle Lau, a cultural worker with extensive experience in Contemporary Asian Art & Design, this exhibition aims to awaken critical consciousness of cultural identities. Lau has curated over 20 art exhibitions and projects, showcasing her dedication to bridging the gap between imagination and instruction, preservation and proliferation.
