The Invisible Dog Art Center, Fisher Center at Bard, and Under the Radar Festival proudly present the New York City premiere of Tania El Khoury's Cultural Exchange Rate. This captivating interactive live art project delves into the invisible but deeply impactful borders that shape our world. Drawing from her own family history in a border village between Lebanon and Syria, El Khoury shares personal narratives of war survival, the struggle of collecting valueless currency, a brief migration to Mexico, and the disregard of colonial and national borders by a river. Through the use of secret boxes, the audience is invited to immerse themselves in the sounds, images, and textures that reflect over a century of border crossings. Cultural Exchange Rate is a poignant exploration of the invisible boundaries that permeate our lives.

This exceptional production boasts a talented team, including Petra Abousleiman for production design, Ziad Abu-Rish, May Haider, Mariam Saada, and Alexander Mayagoitia for research, and Fadi Tabbal for sound design. Jana Traboulsi brings her artistic touch to graphic design, while Ali Beidoun handles live video editing and Luke Bryant and Tania El Khoury contribute to cinematography. With Spanish translation by Ziad Chakaroun and valuable archival material from the El Khoury Family Papers, Archivo General de la Nación, and SRE - Acervo Histórico Diplomático, this production promises to be a thought-provoking and immersive experience.

Cultural Exchange Rate is a co-commission of the Fisher Center, Spielart Munich, and Onassis Stegi Athens. Originally premiered in the Fisher Center's 2019 LAB Biennial: Where No Wall Remains, this remarkable project has received support from esteemed organizations such as the Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundations, Arab Fund for Arts and Culture, Thendara Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Consortium on Forced Migration, Displacement, and Education, The Vilcek Foundation, and the Institute of International Education.
