Creative Conversations: Laynie Browne Date: 10 March 2025 Time: 6-7pm Location: 42 Bute Gardens (916) Laynie Browne was born and raised in Los Angeles. She earned a BA from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MFA from Brown University. She is the author of thirteen collections of poems and three novels. Her most recent collections of poems include You Envelop Me (Omnidawn, 2017), P R A C T I C E (SplitLevel, 2015), and Scorpyn Odes (Kore Press, 2015). Of her book Daily Sonnets, Ron Silliman writes: “It’s a stunner and a delight. A pure dose of heady oxygen” and “an icon for the generations of poets who are about to show up.” Her honors include a 2014 Pew Fellowship; a National Poetry Series Award for The Scented Fox (2007), selected by Alice Notley; a Contemporary Poetry Series Award for Drawing of a Swan Before Memory (2005); and residencies at The MacDowell Colony. Her poetry has been translated into French, Spanish, Chinese, and Catalan. Her writing has appeared in many anthologies including Postmodern American Poetry: A Norton Anthology (second edition, 2013), Ecopoetry: A Contemporary American Anthology (Trinity University Press, 2013), Bay Poetics (Faux Press, 2006), and The Reality Street Book of Sonnets (Reality Street, 2008). Her critical writing has appeared in journals including Jacket2, Aufgabe , Open Letter, and Talisman. She co-edited I’ll Drown My Book: Conceptual Writing by Women (Les Figues Press, 2012) and is currently editing an anthology of original essays on the poet’s novel. She teaches at University of Pennsylvania and Swarthmore College.

We came here on a spontaneous visit one Sunday afternoon in January and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our wee boy loved seeing the &ldquo;old fashioned house&rdquo; and was so well looked after by all the staff, from the cash register to the flat and back out again.We went round twice (with a shift change between visits!) and the insight into one story of no doubt thousands like it in Glasgow was fantastic. Plus our boy thoroughly enjoyed colouring in his wallie dug. A hidden gem that is well worth the wander through Garnethill.

It is a dream castle. When I arrived, it was the April holiday, there were almost no people on the road, only the old buildings stood in the cold air, solemn and heavy, which was awe-inspiring.

George Square is located in the heart of Glasgow, and it is very convenient to take a train or subway. You can sunbathe in the square on a good day. Near the famous store street, you can buy hand letters, clothes, shoes and socks. There are also many restaurants to choose from. George Square is a must-see attraction. In addition to admiring the architecture of the square; at different festivals, such as Christmas, the square will be transformed into a mobile playground full of dynamic and happy atmosphere.
